New Caledonia (France) May 2022: Toyota up to 25.5% share in market up a splendid 23%
The Toyota Hilux holds 10.3% of the New Caledonian market in May.
New car sales in New Caledonia, a French archipelago located north-west of Australia, rebound up a stellar 23% year-on-year to 824 units, leading to a year-to-date volume up 17.4% to 3,527. Toyota (+96.3%) almost doubles its sales year-on-year to reach 25.5% share, its highest since March 2021. Citroen (+66.7%) also vastly outpaces the market up 8.5% share vs. 7.1% YTD. In contrast Peugeot (-1.4%) and Dacia (-26%) suffer, as does Ford (-30.5%). The rest of the Top 10 all post market-beating gains: Hyundai (+62.5%), Renault (+55.6%), Kia (+44%), Mitsubishi (+30%) and Suzuki (+26.9%) all score fantastic gains.
Model-wise, the Toyota Hilux (+88.9%) tightens its grip on the charts with 10.3% share vs. 9.1% so far this year. The Dacia Duster (+35.7%) also outraces the market and stays at #2 above the Toyota Yaris (+3400%). The Citroen C3 (+145.5%), Hyundai Tucson (+566.7%), Suzuki Swift (+150%) and Toyota Land Cruiser (+80%) also post surreal upticks just below. The Peugeot 3008 (+142.9%) climbs into the Top 10 as does the Toyota C-HR (+41.7%).
