Netherlands April 2022: Skoda Enyaq leads, Lynk & Co 01 up to record #4, market off -7.4%

22,087 new light vehicles found a new home in the Netherlands in April, that’s a -7.4% year-on-year drop. The year-to-date tally is now down -3.8% to 100,457, a relatively good performance given the current worldwide climate. Kia (-9.3%) easily holds onto the brands pole position with 11% share vs. 9.4% so far this year. It distances Toyota (-1.8%) up 3 spots on March to #2 and Volkswagen (-27.8%) up one rank to #3 despite a steep fall. Volkswagen also ranks #3 year-to-date whereas it was the FY2022 leader. Skoda (+4.4%) is the only year-on-year gainer in the Top 5 and is up three spots on last month to #4. Peugeot (-20.3%) is in difficulty at #5. Hyundai (+59.5%) scores the best year-on-year gain in the Top 10 by far and is also up three ranks on March to #6. The rest of the Top 10 is in negative, with Mercedes (-2.1%) faring the best and Ford (-20.5%) and Volvo (-14.8%) the hardest hit. Below, Lynk & Co (+947%) celebrates one year in market by gaining 10 spots on last month to climb to #14. This is the Chinese brand’s best ranking in the Netherlands so far, with a previous best of #15 hit in October and November last year. Cupra (+1972.7%), MG (+334.7%), Polestar (+170.5%), Bentley (+128.6%), DS (+104.2%), Alfa Romeo (+100%), Honda (+100%) and Lamborghini (+100%) all at least double their sales year-on-year.
Over in the models ranking, the Skoda Enyaq (+146.2%) is #1 for the third time after last November and December ahead of the YTD #1 the Volvo XC40 (-5.1%). The Peugeot 208 (+40.7%) is up one spot on March to land on the third step of the podium but the big event this month is the 4th place overall of the Lynk & Co 01, a new ranking record for the Chinese model, eclipsing its previous best of #5 hit last November. It also smashes its share record at 3.1%. The Kia Niro (-36.1%) and Picanto (-32.3%) follow in absolute freefall, while the Hyundai Kona (+93.5%), Ford Fiesta (+38.1%) and VW Polo (+8.6%) snap year-on-year gains in the remainder of the Top 10. At #11, the Kia EV6 is the best-selling recent launch above the Toyota Yaris Cross (#18), VW Taigo (#27), Toyota Aygo X (#31), Cupra Born (#32) and Audi Q4 (#34).
