Israel March 2022: Market down -4.1%, Toyota Yaris Cross up to #5 over Q1

The Israeli new car market is up 4.1% year-on-year in March to 27,794 units, leading to a Q1 2022 volume down -9.9% to 90,509. Hyundai (+44.9%) reclaims the pole position it holds year-to-date with 20.7% of the market, in line with the 20.3% it commands YTD. Toyota (+27.8%) falls back to 2nd place with 16.2% share ahead of Kia (+14.2%) meaning the entire podium outpaces the market and is identical to the YTD order. Mitsubishi (-4.2%) edges down but stays at #4 while Peugeot (+34.9%) is up five spots on February to end the month at #5. Skoda (-51.7%) and Suzuki (-13.3%) suffer whereas BMW (+65.7%), Citroen (+38.2%) and Mazda (+4.3%) show positive results in the remainder of the Top 10. Below, MG (+50.4%) misses out on a Top 10 finish by just 9 sales, with Opel (+205.1%), Tesla (+113.5%), Volkswagen (+48.3%) and Mercedes (+38.6%) also impressive. Geely climbs up six ranks on last month to #19 and Aiways is up 19 to #32.

In the models ranking over Q1 2022, the Hyundai Ioniq (+36%) returns to #1 above the Kia Picanto (+40.4%), both toppling last year’s leader the Toyota Corolla (-9%). The Hyundai Tucson (+603.6%) is lifted up 7-fold by the new generation and the Toyota Yaris Cross lands at #5 overall with 2.7% share, even climbing to #3 in February. The rest of the Top 10 all beat the market, with the Hyundai Elantra (+210.9%) and Mazda2 (+83.9%) the most dynamic followed by the Toyota RAV4 (+32.3%), Kia Niro (+24.6%) and Hyundai Kona (+12.4%). Notice also the Mitsubishi Space Star up to #12 vs. #39 over the Full Year 2021 and the Hyundai Venue up to #13 vs. #23. Below the Yaris Cross, the best-selling recent launches are the Geely Geometry C (#35), Hyundai Ioniq 5 (#39) and Opel Mokka (#66).
