Finland March 2022: Toyota Corolla faraway leader, Tesla Model Y up to #3 in market sinking -27.3%

Toyota Corolla sales are up 3.3% in a market down -27.3%

The Finnish new car market sinks -27.3% year-on-year in March to 7,406 sales, leading to a year-to-date tally down -22% to 21,397 units. Toyota (-12.8%) reinforces its ultra-domination with 17.7% share, more than twice any other carmaker in the country. Toyota holds 19.4% of the market year-to-date. Volvo (-8%) remains in 2nd place for the month and year-to-date, with Kia (-21.5%) staying at #3. Volkswagen (-47%) and Skoda (-47.9%) almost halve their year-ago sales, whereas Tesla (+40.9%) and Opel (+6.4%) post the only year-on-year gains in the Top 10. Below, Polestar (+1100%), Fiat (+63%), Lexus (+28%), Porsche (+22.9%), Dacia (+18%) and Cupra (+10.2%) shine with YoY gains.

Model-wise, the Toyota Corolla (+3.3%) cements its domination with a 6.3% share, in line with the 6.4% it commands year-to-date. The Toyota Yaris (-38.6%) is up one spot on February to #2 while the Tesla Model Y leaps from outside the February Top 30 directly to #3 as the end-of-quarter deliveries artificially boost its volume. The Nissan Qashqai (-43.4%) is up three ranks to #4, distancing the Volvo XC60 (+24.4%) and Opel Astra (+26.1%) both in outstanding shape. The Kia Ceed (+15.3%) also goes against the market at #8. The Toyota Yaris Cross (#9) leads recent launches above the Opel Mokka (#16), Kia EV6 (#28) and Hyundai Ioniq 5 (#30).
