Kazakhstan February 2022: Hyundai monopolises Top 4 in market up 3.8%

Hyundai Sonata sales are up 81.7% year-on-year this month in Kazakhstan.

After being disrupted by social unrest in January (-53%), the Kazakh new vehicle market bounces back up 3.8% year-on-year in February to 7,750 sales, leading to a year-to-date tally off -26.2% to 11,666. Hyundai (+8.8%) continues on its implacable domination with 28.7% of the market, while Toyota (+28.2%), Lada (+37.3%), Chevrolet (-55.3%) stand way behind. Kia (+391%) lodges the largest gain in the Top 10, with Volkswagen (+36%) and Lexus (+35.8%) also impressive. Newcomer Haval steps down one spot to leave the Top 10 at #11, while Kamaz (+1180%), Subaru (+1000%), BMW (+167.3%) and Infiniti (+129.7%) also making themselves noticed further down.

Over in the models ranking, Hyundai monopolises the Top 4 with the Accent (-50.1%) taking the lead despite a steep year-on-year loss. It distances the Sonata (+81.7%), Tucson (+14.2%) and last month’s leader the Elantra (+213.5%). The Chevrolet Cobalt (-57.5%) is the best of the rest ahead of the Chevrolet Nexia (-61.5%) both plunging. The Kia Rio (+97.4%) and Lada Granta (+458.8%) deliver the largest upticks in the Top 10 with the Toyota Prado (+61.2%) also performing very well at #10. Below, the Toyota RAV4 (+69.5%), Hyundai Santa Fe (+3000%) and Kia Sportage (+3000%) show explosive growth. The Kia Sorento (#15) leads new models above the Hyundai Palisade (#20), Toyota Land Cruiser 300 (#24) and Haval Jolion (#29).
