United Arab Emirates Full Year 2021: Toyota Land Cruiser passes Nissan Patrol in market up 26.4%

New vehicle sales in the United Arab Emirates shoot up 26.4% year-on-year in 2021 to 192,445 units. However market leaders Toyota (+13.8%) and Nissan (+8.6%) can’t follow the rhythm and lose significant share to a still dominant 30.7% and 18.3% respectively. Mitsubishi (+94.5%) almost doubles its year-ago volume and climbs from 8.7% to 13.4% share but stays in third position. The Top 4 is unchanged on 2020 with Kia (+38.8%) also outpacing the market. Suzuki (+159.9%), GMC (+66.4%), Hyundai (+51.5%) and Chevrolet (+28%) also advance ever faster than the market in the remainder of the Top 10. Below, MG (+81.3%) is up three ranks to #14, with Changan (+326.4%), Volvo (+75%) and Peugeot (+64.1%) among the most impressive further down.
Over in the models ranking, the Toyota Land Cruiser (-1.4%) passes the Nissan Patrol (-15.6%) to claims a third annual win in the past 6 years, the same as its archenemy the Patrol. The Toyota Hilux (+11.6%) and Nissan Sunny (+65.7%) camp on their 2020 positions at #3 and #4 respectively. Outstanding result for the Mitsubishi Attrage (+186.8%) with the Mitsubishi Pajero (+40.6%) also outracing the market but dropping one spot on 2020 to #6. The Toyota Hiace (+46.7%) and Mitsubishi L200 (+37.8%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10 whereas the Toyota Prado (-9.7%) struggles. Just outside the Top 10, the Suzuki Swift Dzire (+847.8%) and Mitsubishi Montero Sport (+487.7%) produce surreal upticks, as does the Nissan X Terra (+1159.5%) further down. The Toyota Corolla Cross (#56) is the best-selling 2021 launch.
