Colombia January 2022: Suzuki Swift surprise leader in market up 21.2%
The Suzuki Swift is the best-selling vehicle in Colombia in January.
New vehicle sales in Colombia surge 21.2% year-on-year in January to 17,390 units, the largest January volume in 6 years. Renault (-1.1%) reclaims the top spot it held over the Full Year 2021 for just 61 sales, having been toppled by Chevrolet (+8.4%) in December. Mazda (+10%) also returns to its FY2021 position at #3 despite gaining only half the market growth. Suzuki (+359.5%) post a surreal year-on-year gain but is down one spot on December to #4, while Toyota (+44.2%) and Kia (+48.2%) also beat the market just below. Mercedes (+90.8%) and Foton (+48.6%) do the same thing in the remainder of the Top 10. BYD (+1662.5%) makes its first appearance inside the Colombian Top 30 directly at #13, however it appears to be thanks to bus sales. Volvo (+157.8%) and JMC (+116.7%) also show off further down the charts.
There is a surprise atop the models ranking: the Suzuki Swift becomes the best-seller in the country thanks for the first time to 4.6% share vs. 1.6% over the Full Year 2021, with the sedan version (aka Dzire) representing 73% of its sales for the month. The Chevrolet Onix rallies back up to #2 ahead of the Mazda2 and Renault Kwid while the Renault Duster rounds out the Top 5. The Chevrolet Tracker at #6 is 10 spots above its FY2021 ranking while the Chevrolet Beat at #8 is up 6 spots. Leader over the FY2021, the Mazda CX-30 is down to a paltry 10th place in January. Notice also the Chevrolet Captiva up to #14 vs. #35 over the FY2021, the Toyota Yaris up to #15 vs. #49 and the Renault Alaskan up to #20 vs. #62. The Ford Bronco Sport makes its first appearance in the Colombian Top 50 directly at #36 with the Hyundai Kona (#60) and Toyota Yaris Cross (#70) the other novelties.
