Portugal November 2021: Kia (+183.7%), Hyundai (+107.6%) surge in market off -7.6%
Hyundai sales more than double year-on-year in November.
New car sales in Portugal drops -7.6% year-on-year in November to 10,928 registrations, leading to a year-to-date volume up 2.2% to 134,029 units. Peugeot (+19.2%) defies the negative market to emphatically cement its domination at 14.7% share vs. 11.8% so far this year. In contrast Renault (-40.8%) is in great difficulty but manages to hold onto the 2nd place with 8.2% share vs. 10.4% YTD. Mercedes (-18.4%) advances to #3 year-to-date, passing BMW (-33.5%). Kia (+183.7%), Hyundai (+107.6%) and Dacia (+97.8%) all post spectacular year-on-year gains in the remainder of the Top 10, with Toyota (+10.6%) also up but Citroen (-18.5%) and Nissan (-17.3%) down. Outside the Top 10, notice Tesla (+316.7%), Mitsubishi (+133.3%), Mazda (+69.1%) and Porsche (+43.1%).
Over in the models ranking, the Peugeot 2008 (+15.4%) confirms it is the favourite with Portuguese customers with 6.3% share. It distances the Dacia Sandero (+367.3%) up five spots on last month to #2 and the Peugeot 208 (+28.4%) up one to #3. The Renault Clio (-42.2%) is in freefall at #4 whereas the Peugeot 3008 (+203%) and Opel Corsa (+17.8%) score solid gains. The Toyota C-HR (+46.6%) and Ford Focus (+3.9%) are also in positive in the remainder of the Top 10 whereas the Mercedes A-Class (-43.7%) and Citroen C3 (-30.9%) suffer. The Tesla Model Y is the best-selling recent launch at #15 ahead of the Dacia Spring (#35), Hyundai Ioniq 5 (#36), Toyota Yaris Cross (#45), Hyundai Bayon (#46) and Kia EV6 (#48).
