Turkey August 2021: Dacia (+349.2%) scores first podium finish in market off -2.4%

Dacia is up to #3 brand in Turkey in August.

1/10/21 update: Now with Top 25 models and updated Toyota volume.

The Turkish new light vehicle market edges down -2.4% year-on-year in August to 60.033 units, leading to a year-to-data tally now up 24.7% to 502.583. Note these figures have been updated with higher volumes for Toyota. Evolutions vary wildly between the most popular brands. Fiat (-23%) struggles year-on-year but scores a 17.3% share, almost two percentage points above its year-to-date level. Renault (+98.6%) almost doubles its sales year-on-year, gains five spots on July to #2 and hits 14.5% share vs. 10.4% so far in 2021. Dacia (+349.2%) is up 4-fold year-on-year and manages its very first podium finish in Turkey with 7.4% share vs. 5.2% YTD. Hyundai (+66.1%) also shines at #4 with 7.3% share vs. 4.9% YTD as does Toyota (+42.6%). Reversely Volkswagen (-33.6%) and Ford (-52%) tumble down and round out the Top 6. Honda (+84.7%), Citroen (+31.4%) and Mercedes (+19.5%) also outpace the market in the remainder of the Top 10. Further down, Isuzu (+791.7%), Suzuki (+214.9%), Iveco (+51.4%), Ssangyong (+43%), Volvo (+38.1%) and Land Rover (+28.9%) stand out.

Over in the models ranking, the Fiat Egea (-1.7%) edges down but racks up a splendid 13.3% share vs. 10.5% so far this year and more than double any other nameplate in the market. The Renault Megane rallies back up 16 spots on July to 2nd place with 6% share vs. 4.1% YTD where it ranks 5th. The Toyota Corolla (+26.6%) remains in third place and stays #2 year-to-date while the Renault Clio (+5.5%) is up five ranks on last month to #4, advancing to #3 year-to-date in the process. The Dacia Duster (+110.2%) more than doubles its sales year-on-year but drops 5 spots to #10, with all remaining Top 10 models enduring a fall: the Fiat Doblo (-42.7%), Ford Transit/Tourneo Courier (-39.8%) and Fiat Fiorino (-31.5%) hit the hardest. Below, the VW Golf lifts a further four ranks to #13 and the Opel Astra, Ford Puma and Seat Leon all fit within the Top 20.
