Switzerland September 2021: Tesla Model 3 and Model Y top market down -8.4%
The Tesla Model 3 holds 5.4% of the Swiss market in September.
New car sales in Switzerland return to negative in September at -8.4% year-on-year to 19.648 units, yet the year-to-date tally remains in positive at +10.1% and 180.073 registrations. Brand leader Volkswagen (+32.5%) ignores the depleted context to sport a hefty gain and cement its pole position at 10.4% share. BMW (-2.2%) is up one spot to #2 and 8.7% of the market, in line with its year-to-date level. As it has been the case in most European markets this month, Tesla sales (+42.4%) take off, the brand being up 16 ranks on August to land at #3 overall with 8.3% share, breaking its ranking, volume and share records. In contrast Mercedes (-44.4%) implodes in 4th place. Toyota (+29.1%) and Audi (+8.8%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10, while further down Subaru (+41.7%), Suzuki (+29.9%) and Kia (+23.4%) stand out and both Cupra (+11500%) and Polestar (+4700%) celebrate one year in market.
Over in the models ranking, Tesla manages a stunning 1-2, placing the Model 3 (+20.3%) in pole position with 5.4% share and the Model Y in 2nd place with 2.9% of the Swiss market. As a result the Model 3 climbs to #2 in the year-to-date order the same ranking as the one it held over the Full Year 2020. Leader last month, the Toyota Yaris (+69%) is down to #3 yet sports a very dynamic year-on-year evolution as is the case for the VW Golf (+65.1%) at #4 and the Fiat 500 (+46.9%) at #5. The Skoda Enyaq is up 22 spots on August to claim its very first Top 20 finish in Switzerland directly at #6. The Audi Q5 (+101.5%) and BMW X3 (+25.4%) also manage solid growth in the remainder of the Top 10. Just outside the Top 10, the Dacia Sandero (+122%) and VW Polo (+116.8%) make themselves noticed.
