Netherlands July 2021: Market back down -22.4%, Kia Niro now #1 YTD, Ford Mustang Mach-E up to #5

The Ford Mustang Mach-E is up to #5 in the Netherlands in July.

New car sales in the Netherlands skid down -22.4% year-on-year in July to 26.883 units, tilting the year-to-date volume back into negative at -1.5% to 189.692 sales. Kia (+10.8%) brilliantly bucks the negative trend to sign a 4th consecutive month in pole position and 5th time in the past 6 months at 10.3% share vs. 9% so far this year. It however remains #2 year-to-date below Volkswagen (-35.3%) enduring a steep year-on-year fall but sporting a market share (9.8%) superior to its YTD level (9.2%). Toyota (+40.8%) surges in third place with 8% share vs. 7.1% YTD and Hyundai (+11%) is the only remaining Top 10 brand in positive, with BMW (-40.1%), Peugeot (-33.4%), Ford (-31.7%) and Skoda (-29.5%) all falling faster than the market. Year-on-year gainers are rare below: Polestar (+258.8%), Dacia (+89.8%), Jeep (+42.6%) and Lamborghini (+33.3%) all post smashing upticks. Newcomer Lynk & Co is up 8 spots on June to #23 with 0.6% of the market: a solid start for the Chinese brand.

In the models ranking, the Kia Niro (+3.6%) repeats at #1 and signs a third win in the past four months. It is rewarded with the year-to-date top spot, dislodging the Volvo XC40 (-35.5%) down to #6 this month. The VW Polo (-33%) is up two spots on June to #2 ahead of the Toyota Yaris (+252.5%) up 3 to #3 and the Kia Picanto (+26.1%) up one to #4. The Ford Mustang Mach-E breaks into the Dutch Top 10 for the first time, up 6 ranks on last month to an outstanding 5th place overall. Below, the Peugeot 108 (+15.8%) and Hyundai Tucson (+3560%) also rise while the Skoda Enyaq is down 8 spots to a still solid 10th place. Among other recent launches, the VW ID.4 is down 9 ranks to #31, the Opel Mokka up 43 to #41, the Lynk & Co 01 up 85 to #51 and the Mercedes EQA up 12 to #53.
