Colombia July 2021: Renault Kwid now #1 YTD in market up 59.7%

The Renault Kwid dominates the Colombian charts in July.

New vehicle sales in Colombia surge 59.7% year-on-year in July to 23.130 units, the highest score for the month since 2015. The year-to-date tally is now up 54.6% to 134.299. Note July 2021 volumes are up 1% on pre-pandemic levels of July 2019. Renault (+63.2%) slightly outpaces the market to reach a strong 22% share vs. 20.8% so far this year. Renault sells more than double any other carmaker including Chevrolet (-8%) suffering from production issues triggered by the microchip crisis. Toyota (+131.7%) is the biggest gainer in the Top 6, leaping to 9.3% share vs. 7.5% year-to-date, it distances a group of four carmakers all outracing the market: Suzuki (+163.9%), Mazda (+83.3%), Nissan (+83.2%) and Kia (+82.1%) all shine. Below, Ram (+417.6%), Seat (+343.5%), Subaru (+317.5%), Audi (+212.7%), Hyundai (+205.3%), Mitsubishi (+178.6%), Jeep (+148.1%), Citroen (+113.8%), Kenworth (+113.6%), Honda (+106.9%), BMW (+96.2%) and Changan (+93.8%) stand out with surreal year-on-year lifts.

Model-wise, the Renault Kwid (+67.9%) retains the top spot and is now also #1 year-to-date, toppling the Mazda CX-30 (+135.3%) back up 7 spots on June to #3. The Chevrolet Joy remains in 2nd place with 4.9% share vs. 3% so far this year. The Kia Picanto (+119.5%) and Renault Stepway (+71.6%) round out the Top 5 while the Mazda2 (+125.6%) shoots up 29 ranks on last month to #6 and 3.4% share vs. #13 and 2.2% YTD. Three Renaults follow: the Sandero (+70.5%), Logan (+96.7%) and Duster (+7.1%) just as the Toyota Corolla Cross drops 7 spots on June to close the Top 10. The Suzuki Swift (+540%), Ford Ranger (+208.5%), Hyundai Creta (+204.8%), Toyota Corolla (+189.3%), Suzuki S-Cross (+186.4%), Renault Duster Oroch (+170.9%) and Suzuki S-Presso (+165.4%) are among the best performers further down, and the Kia Seltos lands directly at #35.
