Taiwan June 2021: Toyota Corolla Cross #1, Mercedes (+6.3%) defies market down -32.5%
The Toyota Corolla Cross is by far the best-selling vehicle in Taiwan in June.
June is the first month since the start of the pandemic to be entirely under level 3 restrictions in Taiwan, and new car sales logically suffer from it, down -32.5% year-on-year to just 27.930 units. The year-to-date tally is up 5.7% to 221.809. Toyota (-47.1%) loses significantly more ground than the market but easily remains the most popular brand on the island with 22.7% share. It is followed by Mitsubishi/CMC (-24.6%) resisting well at 12.3% share. Mercedes (+6.3%) defies the depressed environment to post the only year-on-year gain in the Top 10 and climb to #3 with 8.8% share. It distances Lexus (-32%), Ford (-29.3%) and BMW (-12.5%).
The Toyota Corolla Cross has established itself as the favourite choice for Taiwanese car buyers, easily topping the models charts with 6.5% share. The CMC Veryca (-17.4%) limits its fall to jump to second place overall, whereas the Toyota RAV4 (-70.7%) and Corolla Altis (-64.2%) both sink. Excellent hold by the Ford Focus (-10.1%) in 5th place while the Tesla Model 3 surges 104.5% year-on-year to rank 6th overall for the month. The Lexus NX (-29.3%), Mitsubishi Delica (-28.9%) roughly follow the market and the Honda CR-V (-62.1%) and Toyota Yaris (-56.7%) round out the Top 10. Notice also the Mercedes GLC (+1.1%), Nissan Sentra (+83.2%), Honda Odyssey (+13.3%) and Mercedes A-Class (+65.4%) notching year-on-year gains.
