Denmark May 2021: Ford Kuga now #1 year-to-date, sales up 47.2%

The Ford Kuga is the #1 vehicle in Denmark both in May and YTD.

New car sales in Denmark leap up 47.2% year-on-year in May to 16.825 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 8.2% to 76.240. Volkswagen (+16.4%) once again vastly trails the market but remains the most successful carmaker in the country at 10.8% share vs. 10.5% so far this year. BMW (+233.2%) spectacularly triples its volume year-on-year to remain in 2nd place with 8.9% share vs. 7.8% year-to-date, it distances Toyota (+84.3%) also gaining share at 8.6% of the market. Peugeot (+36%) and Citroen (+29.1%) disappoint and round out the Top 5 while Ford (+103.9%), Audi (+94.6%) and Mercedes (+60.4%) outpace the market in the remainder of the Top 10. MG (+550%), Jeep (+275%), Seat (+91.2%) and Opel (+77.3%) also shine further down.

Model-wise, the Ford Kuga (+719%) continues to surf on the success of the new generation and its PHEV variant to reclaim the top spot, snapping the year-to-date pole position in the process. The Citroen C3 (+57.6%) drops one spot on April to #2, a ranking it now also holds year-to-date. The Toyota Aygo (+101.9%) leaps up 12 ranks on last month to land on the third step of the podium while the Peugeot 208 (+33.7%) drops one to #4 and loses its year-to-date crown, now ranking #3 so far in 2021. The rest of the Top 10 models all beat the market, with the BMW 1 Series (+370.1%), Toyota RAV4 (+257.1%) and Opel Corsa (+139%) the most dynamic followed by the Hyundai i10 (+131.2%), Peugeot 2008 (+114%) and Toyota Yaris (+84.8%). The VW ID.4 (#39), ID.3 (#42), Skoda Enyaq (#63) and Citroen C4 (#68) top recent launches.
