Chile May 2021: Market up 9.4% on pre-pandemic, Chinese up to 25.4% share
The Chery Tiggo 2 misses out on the overall May top spot for just 15 sales.
New light vehicle sales in Chile bounce back up 293.2% year-on-year in May to 34.130 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 52.9% to 143.358. Note May 2021 volumes are now up 9.4% on pre-pandemic levels in May 2019. Chevrolet (+201.8%) easily keeps the lead of the brands ranking with 10% share, distancing Nissan (+205.8%) and Toyota (+286.1%) in a podium entirely trailing the market growth. Hyundai (+337.6%) remains in fourth place while Chery (+1790.3%) repeats at a record #5 with a spectacular year-on-year gain. It distances Peugeot (+408.3%) also in great shape. Chinese carmakers again post some of the largest gains around, with JMC (+1500%), ZNA (+1350%) KYC (+917.5%), Maxus (+711.5%), MG (+604.9%), Dongfeng (+406.7%), BAIC (+400%), Changan (+386.4%) and JAC (+362.8%) all in outstanding shape. All-in-all, the Chinese are up 513.1% to 25.4% share this month.
Over in the models ranking, the MG ZS and Chery Tiggo 2 once again lead the charts, both with 3.3% share, and with the Tiggo 2 ending the month only 15 sales behind the ZS. 24 sales further down is the Toyota HIlux, now also ranking #3 YTD vs. #7 as of last month. The Mitsubishi L-200 and Nissan Navara make it three pickup trucks in the Top 5. The Nissan Versa shoots up 14 spots on April to land at #6, toppling the Chevrolet Groove down one to #7. The Maxus T60 remains at #8 while the Suzuki Baleno and Chevrolet Sail round out the Top 10.
