New car sales in Kuwait drop -23.7% year-on-year in 2020 to 83.629 units. Toyota (-20.6%) resists better than the market to improve its share to 33.6% but its next four followers all lose share: Nissan (-34.1%), Chevrolet (-26.3%) and Kia (-33%) and Mitsubishi (-25.8%). Ford (-8.4%) and Lexus (-11.1%) post solid holds in the current context, but the best performer and only gainer in the Top 10 is MG (+29.6%) climbing up two spots to #10. Changan (+50.8%) its up 7 ranks to #12 and Geely (+225.6%) up 12 spots to #17 in a year when Chinese carmakers have secured some of the best performances in market. Volvo (+160.9%), Ram (+27.8%) and Isuzu (+17.4%) also soar further down.

Model-wise, the Toyota Land Cruiser (-0.7%) manages to stabilise its sales and earns an 8% market share, almost two percentage points up on last year, to repeat at #1. The Toyota Prado (-23.1%) follows the market in 2nd place while the Toyota Camry (-17.4%) rounds out the podium just like last year. The Hilux (-35%) is up two spots to #4, making it four Toyotas in the Top 4. The “best of the rest” is the Nissan Patrol (+12.1%) up five spots to #5 thanks to a new model. It is followed by the Nissan Sunny (-61.9%) in freefall and a strong Ford F-Series (+12%) up 7 ranks to #7. The best-selling 2020 launch lands directly inside the Top 10: the Chevrolet Captiva (aka Baojun 530) ranks #9 in Kuwait for the year.
