Indonesia January 2021: Honda Brio and Suzuki Carry confirm domination in market down -34.2%

The Suzuki Carry ranks #2 in Indonesia in January.

New vehicle wholesales in Indonesia are down a steep -34.2% year-on-year in January to 52.910 units, while retail sales are off -33.4% to 53.997 units. In the brands wholesales ranking, Toyota (-33.5%) secures exactly the same market share as during the FY2020 at 30.3%, distancing Daihatsu (-36.5%) and Honda (-43.4%) both falling faster the the market. Mitsubishi (-26.3%) resists best in the Top 5 with Wuling (+65.2%) posting the only year-on-year gain in the Top 10 at #9 with 1.5% share and Isuzu (-7.6%) and Hino (-15.7%) both holding up relatively well. In the retail brand ranking, Toyota (-38.7%) is hit harder while Nissan (+52.5%) shoots up, Isuzu (+8.3%), Hino (-16.4%) and Mitsubishi (-20.4%) resist.

Model-wise, the Honda Brio (-36.4%) keeps the pole position it held over FY2020 with 7.3% share, a mere 26 sales above the Suzuki Carry Pikap (-25.1%) with the Toyota Rush edging up one spot on its FY2020 ranking to land on the third step of the podium. The Mitsubishi L300 Pikap (-12.7%), Toyota Kijang Innova (-14.5%) and Daihatsu Gran Max Pikap (-18.3%) post the best holds in the Top 10. After its 14-year long reign was ended in 2020, the Toyota Avanza (-55.9%) continues to freefall, enduring the steepest fall in the Top 18 at #7. The Toyota Corolla Cross is the best-selling recent launch (<12 months) at #37.
