Italy November 2020: Toyota Yaris (+57%), Fiat 500 (+76.8%) can’t prevent market back down -8.2%
The Toyota Yaris is up to #2 in Italy in November.
The Italian new car market is back down -8.2% year-on-year in November to 139.906 units, -12.7% when looking at the daily sales rate as this year November had one additional working day. Year-to-date volumes are down -28.8% or over 500.000 units to 1.271.776. Once again private sales pull the market in the right direction at +12.2% to 92.484 and 66.1% share vs. 54.1% a year ago, whereas rental sales drop -19.4% to 28.515 and 20.4% vs. 23.2%, including 3.989 short-term rentals (-15.4%) and 22.428 long-term leases (-16.3%), the “other rentals” category imploding -45.7%. Company sales almost halve year-on-year at -45.2% to 18.907 and 13.5% share vs. 22.7% a year ago. Year-to-date, private sales are down -20.5% to 810.776 and 63.8% share vs. 57.1% over the same period in 2019, rental sales are off -36% to 278.032 and company sales down -44.8% to 182.968. In terms of sales by fuel, BEV is up 350.4% to 4.810, HEV up 206.7% to 32.309 and PHEV up 403.1% to 4.940.
Brand leader Fiat (-1.8%) resists a lot better than the market at 15.4% share, but Volkswagen (-15.3%) struggles while Renault (+9.7%) shines in third place. Jeep (+18.2%), Citroen (+8.6%), Dacia (+5.2%), Toyota (+0.8%) and Audi (+0.1%) also defy the declining market in the remainder of the Top 10, Peugeot (-1.6%) limits its loss but Ford (-16.9%) is in difficulty. Model-wise, below eternal leader the Fiat Panda (+1.7%), the Toyota Yaris (+57%) and Fiat 500 (+76.8%) post fantastic gains on the podium, with the Dacia Sandero (+69%), Jeep Compass (+60.8%), Renegade (+40%) and Renault Captur (+33.6%) also very strong in the Top 10.
