According to data shared with us by our Central European market data partner CE Auto, the Moldovan new car market edges up 2.2% year-on-year in September to 561 units, leading to a year-to-date tally down -26.2% to 3.526. After over a decade of domination by the Dacia Logan produced in neighbouring Romania, 2020 is turning out to be the year that changed everything. In September the Dacia Duster (+88.6%) annihilates the competition and holds a record 14.8% of the market thanks to 83 sales – its previous best being 13.6% in January 2019. As a result it leapfrogs past the Dacia Logan (-58.3%) to now rank #2 YTD. It will be interesting to see whether the Logan can reclaim the Moldovan Top 10 once the new generation kicks in in late 2020 / early 2021. The Toyota RAV4 (+71.4%) also posts a fantastic performance and cements its YTD lead with 8.1% share. The Kia Sportage (+72.7%), Skoda Kodiaq (+66.7%), Fabia (+50%) and Hyundai Tucson (+10%) also impress in the remainder of the Top 10.
