Kazakhstan October 2020: Chevrolet takes control of market up 42.2%

Chevrolet is the best-selling car brand in Kazakhstan in October.

New vehicle sales in Kazakhstan continue to gallop ahead in October at +42.2% year-on-year to 9.838 units, leading to a year-to-date volume up 24.7% to 73.246. New local producer Chevrolet (+3095.4%) has a lot to do with the market uptick and takes control of the brands charts for the first time since starting local production earlier in the year. Through a new joint venture between Allur Group, one of Kazakhstan’s leading auto importers, and Uzbekistan-based UzAvtoSanoat, Chevrolet now locally assembles semi-knocked-down kits supplied by UzAuto Motors, a government-owned automaker that succeeded GM’s defunct JV in Uzbekistan. The plan is to produce up to 100.000 annual units in a few years and export most of it to Russia. More detail on this operation here.

Hyundai (+36.2%) and Lada (+53.7%) also gain significant ground on the podium. Further down, UAZ (+83.2%) and JAC (+71.8%) also shine. Over in the models ranking, Chevrolet displays its newfound domination with the Cobalt at #1 and the Nexia at #2, followed by the Hyundai Accent (+74.1%) and Lada Granta (+99.4%), both in outstanding shape as the Granta holds onto the YTD top spot. Strikingly, no other nameplate outpaces the market in the Top 10 with the Lada Largus (+71%) and Hyundai Santa Fe (+62%) shining just outside.
