Czech Republic September 2020: Skoda has 6 models in Top 6, Kamiq on podium, first sales uptick this year (+7.2%)

The Skoda Kamiq scores its second ever podium at home.

New car sales in the Czech Republic sign their first year-on-year uptick of 2020 in September at +7.2% to 16.909 units, leading to a year-to-date tally down -22.4% to 148.319. Local behemoth Skoda (+4.2%) is up but can’t quite match its home market’s growth rate, resulting in a reduced but still strong 39.1% share vs. 38.2% so far this year. Hyundai (+13.9%) is very dynamic and cements the #2 spot it holds YTD above Volkswagen (-13.8%) in great difficulty and enduring the steepest fall in the Top 13. Toyota (+39.7%), Dacia (+30.6%), Mercedes (+26.5%) and BMW (+21.4%) post the largest gains in the Top 10 while below, Ssangyong (+375%), Tesla (+269.2%), Mitsubishi (+72.6%), Fiat (+65.7%), Audi (+57.7%), Subaru (+49%), Opel (+47.1%) and Suzuki (+35.4%) stand out.

Model-wise, the Skoda Octavia (-8.1%) and Fabia (-16.8%) retains the Top 2 spots even though the buck the positive trend and post significant losses. The Skoda Kamiq (+336%) secures its second ever podium finish at home after last June at #3, distancing the Skoda Scala (+1.7%), Kodiaq (+29.4%) and Karoq (+4%). This means Skoda places a record 6 nameplates in its home Top 6 for only the fifth time in history after May 2017, January 2019, September 2019 and June 2020. The Hyundai i30 (+31.7%) remains the most popular foreigner at #7, with the Hyundai Tucson (+55.2%), Kia Ceed (+15.6%) and Toyota Yaris (+91.4%) in tow. The Ford Puma (#16) tops recent launches (<12 months) above the Toyota Proace City (#72) and VW ID.3 (#128).
