Pakistan August 2020: Honda (+71.8%), Toyota (+52.2%) tilt market to first gain in 17 months (+14.9%)

Honda sales in Pakistan surge 71.8% year-on-year in August.

Sales of locally-produced light vehicles in Pakistan soar 14.9% year-on–year in August to 11.742 units, the first positive result both post-pandemic and since March 2019. Keep in mind however that August 2019 volumes were already decimated at -42.1% on the year prior. The year-to-date tally now stands at 67.876, down -52.5% on the same period in 2019. Brand leader Suzuki (-9.3%) can’t match the market but remains at a mammoth 51.1% share, above the 47.3% it commands so far this year. Toyota (+52.2%) and Honda (+71.8%) both surge ahead to 28.2% and 19.2% share respectively. Hyundai now ranks #4 YTD above Isuzu (-65.6%) and JAC (-25%). Model-wise, the Suzuki Alto (-30.5%) remains in the lead at 20.3% share but continues to trail the Toyota Corolla (-49.8%) in the year-to-date order. The Toyota Yaris seems to have plateaued – albeit at very high levels – going down from 16.2% share in July to 14.5% this month just as the Suzuki Cultus (+8.6%) climbs up two spots to #3. We welcome the Hyundai Tucson at #17 with 22 sales.

Previous month: Pakistan July 2020: Toyota Yaris up to 16.2% share, volumes down just -7.4%

One year ago: Pakistan August 2019: Suzuki Alto holds 33.6% of market imploding -42.1%
