Argentina August 2020: VW (-10.1%), Fiat (-12.3%) resist best, Cronos up to record #2, sales plummet -30.9%

The Fiat Cronos is up 113.6% year-on-year to a record 2nd place.

New vehicle sales in Argentina dive another -30.9% year-on-year in August to 30.418 units, leading to a year-to-date tally off -37.7% to 212.798. Brand leader Volkswagen (-10.1%) drops three times slower than the market and hit a strong 18% share vs. 15.6% so far in 2020, easily distancing Toyota (-42.7%) and Chevrolet (-30.8%) both posting lukewarm results. In fact only Fiat (-12.3%), Nissan (-24.2%), Peugeot (-25%) and Renault (-27.8%) also outpace the market in the remainder of the Top 10, with Ford (-39.3%), Jeep (-38.8%) and Citroen (-37.9%) struggling. Foton (+214.3%), Changan (+80%), Scania (+41.4%), Shineray (+39.1%) Iveco (+12.5%) and Volvo (+3.6%) post the only gains in the remainder of the Top 40.

Model-wise, the Toyota Hilux (-34.1%) repeats at #1, securing its 6th win in the past 12 months and reclaiming the YTD pole position off the Chevrolet Onix (-13%) down to #3 this month. The Fiat Cronos (+113.6%) is up two spots on July to break its Argentinean ranking record at #2 with 5.2% share, eclipsing its previous best of #3 hit in October 2018. The VW Amarok (+28.7%) remains extremely strong at #4, distancing the Ford Ranger (-10.1%), VW Gol (-10.4%) and Fiat Toro (+64%).
