Qatar Q1 2020: GMC (+91.3%), MG (+20.2%) defy market down -6.2%
GMC Sierra sales are up 6-fold on Q1 2019 in Qatar.
New light vehicle sales in Qatar edge down -6.2% year-on-year over the First Quarter of 2020 to 11.468 registrations. Toyota (-7%) almost exactly follow the market to hold an ultra-dominant 35.7% share with Mitsubishi (-5.9%) the only additional carmaker above 10% share at 13.5%. The next 3 brands all defy the market to gain ground year-on-year: Kia (+6.8%), Nissan (+5.4%) and Hyundai (+4%) are all in excellent shape, with GMC (+91.3%) and MG (+20.2%) the biggest gainers in the Top 10. Further down, Jeep (+49.5%), Ram (+48.3%), Suzuki (+18.1%) and Renault (+14.4%) stand out while Changan lands directly at #14 vs. #29 over the FY2019.
Over in the models ranking, the Toyota Land Cruiser (-25.6%) loses significant ground but easily retains the pole position with 12.5% share, like in FY2019 distancing the Nissan Sunny (+66.2%) and Toyota Hilux (+19.4%). The Lexus LX (-9.6%) and Nissan Patrol (+7.4%) ensure there are 3 large, premium SUVs in the Top 5. The Mitsubishi L200 (+57%), Toyota Yaris (+34.1%) and Toyota Hiace (+9.6%) also post solid gains in the remainder of the Top 10 while just below, the GMC Sierra (+483.8%), Toyota Rush (+281.1%) and Kia Sportage (+34.9%) make themselves noticed. The Kia Pegas (#15) is the best-selling recent launch ahead of the Kia Seltos (#21), MG 5 (#38), MG RX8 (#39) and Changan Alsvin (#53).
