Lebanon Q1 2020: Nissan #1, Mitsubishi (+91.3%) shines, Toyota (-75.3%) sinks in market down -57.1%

Nissan overtakes Toyota to become the #1 brand in Lebanon in 2020.

New car sales in Lebanon collapse -57.1% year-on-year over the First Quarter of 2020, partly due to drastically inferior registrations by Toyota (-75.3%), market leader over the FY2019 with 36.1% share but down to 14.7% so far in 2020. Nissan (-44.2%) takes the lead of the brands ranking this year with 22.9% share and despite a steep fall, while Kia (-43.5%) remains on the third step of the podium. Mitsubishi (+91.3%) is the standout performer so far in 2020 in Lebanon, reaching 9.1% share vs. just 2.1% over Q1 2019. Only GMC (+4.8%) also manages a year-on-year gain in the remainder of the Top 10, while Suzuki (-44.1%), Renault (-44.7%) and Land Rover (-45.3%) lose slightly less ground than the market but Hyundai (-80.8%) properly implodes. MG lands directly at #11 with 2.3% share.

Model-wise, as is to be expected with such a different-looking market, the ranking is completely overhauled. The Toyota Yaris (+41%) takes the lead, something it hasn’t done annually since 2015. Nissan monopolises the next three spots with the X-Trail (-41.2%), Kicks (+38.2%) and Micra (+57.5%) while the Mitsubishi L200 (+537.5%) leaps up to #5 and the Kia Pegas lands directly at #6. Leader in 2019, the Toyota Land Cruiser sinks to #112 with just 3 sales, #2 Toyota Prado is down to #100 and #3 Nissan Patrol down to #66.
