Bahrain Q1 2020: Lexus up 31% to #2 in stable market (+1.3%)
The Lexus ES ranks #2 and best-selling sedan in Bahrain so far in 2020.
The Bahraini new car market manages a year-on-year uptick over the First Quarter 2020 at +1.3% to 6.636 registrations. Toyota (-10.2%) is the only Top 4 carmaker in negative and sees its market share thaw from 41.2% over Q1 2019 to 36.5% this year. In contrast, Lexus (+31%) is up 3 spots to #2 and 9% share, Hyundai (+22.8%) is up one to #3 and 8.8% and Nissan (+14.9%) is down one to #4 and 8.6% despite evolving one percentage point of share above its 2019 level. Kia (+56.4%), MG (+47.3%), Mitsubishi (+41.5%) and Isuzu (+26.6%) also post fantastic gains in the remainder of the Top 10. Just outside, Changan (+220.6%) triples its Q1 2019 sales to shoot up from #18 over Q1 2019 to #11 this year. Dodge (+94.7%), Subaru (+90%), Renault (+84.2%) and GMC (+75%) also impress further down.
Over in the models ranking, the Toyota Land Cruiser (-20%) is headed towards a 7th consecutive annual win in Bahrain as even with a significant loss, it still holds a 10.6% market share and sells almost 3 times the volume of the #2. Speaking of which, the Lexus ES (+53%) shoots up 9 spots to #2 over the period just as the Hyundai Accent (+77.7%) does even better and gains 10 ranks over Q1 2019 to land on the third step of the podium. The Nissan Urvan (+166.1%), Lexus LX (+37.4%), Isuzu TF (+24.1%) and Toyota Hiace (+23.1%) also shine in the Top 10. The MG 5 (aka Roewe i5) is the most popular recent launch at #25 above the Kia Seltos (#29), Changan Alsvin (#46), Kia Pegas (#51), MG HS (#66) and Mazda CX-30 (#81).
