Vietnam February 2020: Toyota Vios hits record 14% share in market rallying back up 34%

The Toyota Vios breaks its market share record in Vietnam this month.

After freefalling -52.8% in January, the Vietnamese new vehicle market bounces back up 34% year-on-year to 17.616 registrations, helped by a weak year-ago comparison impacted by Lunar New Year holidays. The year-to-date tally is now down -28.4% to 33.403 units. Toyota (+103.6%) more than doubles its sales year-on-year to reach 26.6% share, with Thaco-Kia (+67.8%) also vastly outperforming the market in 2nd place with 21.8% share. Mitsubishi (+269.5%), Suzuki (+258.4%), Isuzu (+1775%) and Hino (+170.6%) also post spectacular gains in the remainder of the Top 10 just as Peugeot (-35.5%), Ford (-21.2%), Honda (-13.5%) and Mazda (-2.2%) go against the grain with losses. Model-wise, the Toyota Vios (+288.1%) quadruples its sales year-on-year to brilliantly hold onto the pole position with a new record 14% share, eclipsing its previous best of 12.4% hit in February 2018 and June 2019. The Mitsubishi Xpander celebrates one year in market in 2nd place with the Mazda3 (+3.9%) rounding out the podium like last month and over the FY2019. The new Kia Soluto is down 3 spots on January to #8 while the Suzuki Carry (+645.5%) and Toyota Innova (+29.3%) score the largest gains in the remainder of the Top 10.
