Thailand January 2020: Isuzu D-Max leads, Honda City (+87.2%), Nissan Almera (+123.1%) defy market down -8.2%

The Isuzu D-Max snaps its first win in Thailand since last April.

The Thai new vehicle market skids down -8.2% year-on-year in January to 71.688 registrations. Toyota (-24.4%) freefalls to 28.2% share vs. 32.9% over the FY2019, whereas Isuzu (+12.4%) is up to 19.9% vs. 16.7% and Honda (+22.8%) is up to 15.9% vs. 12.5%. However Suzuki (+85.1%) is by far the best performer in the Top 10, with MG (+2.6%) the only additional gainer. Ford (-48.4%), Mercedes (-26.7%) and Mazda (-23%) all implode in the remainder of the Top 10. Further down, Subaru (+32.5%) and Volvo (+3.6%) are also up while Peugeot confirms its return at #19 now that it sells the 3008 and 5008 SUVs in Thailand.

Suzuki sales soar 85.1% year-on-year in a declining market.

Model-wise, the Isuzu D-Max (+17.3%) finally takes advantage of its new generation to grab the pole position off the Toyota Hilux (-22%) for the first time since last April. The Honda City (+87.2%) and Nissan Almera (+123.1%) both post spectacular gains thanks to new generations, whereas the Mazda2 (-31.2%), Mitsubishi Triton (-20.7%), Toyota Yaris (-25.4%) and Honda Civic (-19.1%) all sink.
