Switzerland February 2020: Captur (+212.5%), Zoe (+193.4%) propel Renault up 37.8% in market down -13.8%
Renault Captur sales triple year-on-year in Switzerland.
New car sales in Switzerland drop -13.8% year-on-year in February to 19.108 units, pulling the year-to-date volume down -12.1% to 37.896. 4×4 sales drop -12.3% to 9.759 and 51.1% share vs. 50.2% in February 2019, leading to a YTD tally down -8.7% to 19.914 and 52.5% vs. 50.6% over the same period a year ago. Alternatively fuelled vehicle sales shoot up 86.8% to 3.636 registrations and 19% share vs. 8.8% a year ago, and are up 97.9% to 7.264 and 19.2% share so far in 2020 vs. 8.5% in 2019. Among them, PHEV (+264%) is the most dynamic segment while EV sales only gain 7%. and 33.9% YTD.
Volkswagen (-10.3%) manages to hold its fall and remains the #1 brand in the country with 11.5% share, however followers Mercedes (-5.2%) and BMW (-7.4%) only drop in the single digits and improve their share significantly as a result. Skoda (-21.7%) and Seat (-14.3%) complete the Top 5 but are both in difficulty. Renault (+37.8%), Audi (+17.2%) and Volvo (+7.9%) post the only gains in the Top 10 – and Top 15 – and very sturdy upticks at that. Further down, Porsche (+258.2%), Ferrari (+230.8%), DS (+210.7%), Lexus (+79.3%) and Bentley (+54.5%) impress with spectacular gains, while Mitsubishi (+15.3%) and Mini (+10.6%) are also very solid.
In the models ranking, the Skoda Octavia (-22.1%) and VW Tiguan (-9.8%) keep control ahead of the Mercedes A-Class (-15.5%) up 4 spots on January to #3 with the Mercedes GLC (-6.5%) and Skoda Karoq (-30.5%) rounding out the Top 5. The Volvo XC40 (+35.3%) posts another brilliant result at #8 but the hero of the Top 10 is the Renault Zoe (+193.4%), surging 11 ranks on January to land at #9, its first ever Swiss Top 10 finish and smashing its previous ranking record of #16 established last December. The Renault Captur (+212.5%), Mercedes GLE (+211.6%), Audi Q3 (+152.3%), Volvo XC60 (+46.7%) and BMW 1 Series (+32.6%) also shine further down.
