Mexico February 2020: Ram (+44.5%), Renault (+23.5%) lift market to first “true” gain in almost 3 years (+0.3%)

Ram breaks into the Mexican Top 10 brands in February.

25/03/20 update: Now with actuals for Top 40 All-brands and Top 300 All-models.

In February new vehicle sales in Mexico manage their first “true” year-on-year uptick in almost 3 years (since May 2017) at a shy +0.3% to 104.328. Indeed the +1.8% January 2019 lift was a freak event due to Chevrolet’s methodology change. As a result the year-to-date tally is now down -2.7% to 209.160. Nissan (-2%) remains in control of the brands ranking at 21.4% even though once again it performs worse than the market. Chevrolet (+18.8%) on the other hand posts a stellar gain in 2nd place and 16.1% share, keeping Volkswagen (+1.4%) at bay in third. Ram (+44.5%) is the best performer in a Top 10 it cracks for the first time since last August. Beyond the Top 10, Subaru (+117.9%), Volvo (+34.2%), JAC (+31%), Porsche (+30.3%) and Renault (+23.5%) are among the best performers.

Over in the models ranking, the Nissan Versa (+12.8%) easily holds onto the top spot, distancing the Chevrolet Aveo (+29.7%) and Beat (+11.6%). However only the Kia Forte (+8.5%) and Rio (+2%) manage a gain in the remainder of the Top 10, with the Nissan Sentra (-17.7%), VW Vento (-11.9%), Nissan March (-11.2%) and Pickup (-7.4%) all suffering. The Ram 1500-4000 (+78.6%) lurches 27 spots on January to land at #11, the Chevrolet Onix is up 51 to #12 and best-seller among recent launches above the Kia Seltos (#30), VW Virtus (#32), Mazda CX-30 (#33) and Renault Kwid (#40).
