The Toyota RAV4 scores its first ever Top 5 finish in Poland.
New light vehicle sales in Poland slide down -14.5% to 43.866 registrations including LCVs in January, -13.7% to 38.889 when only looking at passenger cars. Company sales account for 66.1% share (28.982) vs. 33.9% private sales (14.884) while petrol sales hold a 72.8% share (31.922) vs. 26.7% for diesel (11.718), hybrid sales aren’t differentiated. Toyota (+35%) is the clear winner of the month, now able to unleash its hybrid lineup with new EU emissions rules taking effect at the start of the year, hitting a record 15.8% share vs. 10.3% over the FY2019 and smashing its previous best of 11.9% hit back in January 2017. Skoda (-11.5%) resists better than the market and uses to 12.9% share vs. 11.1%, while Volkswagen (-27.8%) implodes. Mercedes (+9.8%) at #4 and BMW (+18.4%) are the only additional Top 15 carmakers able to post a gain this month, when Opel (-62.1%), Dacia (-43.8%) and Fiat (-26.2%) are hit particularly hard. When looking at passenger cars only, Toyota lifts to 17% share and Skoda to 14.5%, Kia moves up to #4, Hyundai to #5, Dacia to #7, BMW to #10 and Audi to #11.
Model-wise, the Toyota Corolla (+297.9%) enjoys a 9th consecutive monthly win just above the Toyota Yaris (+21.7%) while last year’s leader the Skoda Octavia (-19.9%) falls to #3 above the Skoda Fabia (-28.6%). The Toyota RAV4 (+217.2%) is up 5 spots on December to break into the Polish Top 5 for the first time in history at #5. The Skoda Scala is up 10 ranks on last month to reach a new Polish ranking record at #12, as do the Skoda Kamiq up 14 to #17 and the VW T-Cross up to #25. The Opel Crossland X lodges its first ever Top 50 finish at #36 and the Honda HR-V makes its first appearance in the Polish Top 15 in almost 4 years, since April 2016. When looking at passenger cars only, the Mazda CX-30 (#46) and Hyundai Kona (#47) also score their inaugural Polish Top 50 finish.
