Peru Full Year 2019: Toyota and Hilux cement leads in market up 2.4%

New light vehicles sales in Peru edge up 2.4% year-on-year in 2019 to 151.997 units. Pickup trucks are the hero segment this year, up 17.5% to 22.654 units and 14.9% share vs. 13% in 2018, SUVs gain 7.4% to 49.386 and 32.5% share vs. 31%, vans are up 5.6% to 22.899 and 15.1% vs. 14.6% but passenger cars drop -7.1% to 57.058 and 37.5% share vs 41.4% a year ago.
Brand leader Toyota (+4.7%) almost doubles the market growth rate to cement its position at 19.6% share vs. just 12.3% for #2 Hyundai (-9.7%) while Kia (-16.7%) suffers the most in the Top 5 but remains in third place. Chevrolet (+0.2%) edges up at #4 while Nissan (+30.4%) easily posts the largest gain in the Top 10 to break into the Top 5 at #5. Changan (+23.2%), Mitsubishi (+15.2%) and Renault (+4.4%) also over perform further down.
Model-wise, the Toyota Hilux (+21.5%) easily repeats at #1 and improves to 6.9% share, now almost double the #2, the Kia Rio (-2.2%) with the Toyota Yaris Sedan (-10.4%) rounding out the podium like last year. The Hyundai Accent (-0.1%) overtakes the Toyota Etios (-9.6%) to #4 while the Hyundai Grand i10 (+54.5%) is up 3 spots to #6 and the Nissan Versa (+111.5%) breaks into the Top 10, landing directly at #7.
