New vehicle sales in Panama edge down -3% in 2019 to 47.866 units. Toyota (-10.2%) remains the most popular carmaker in the country at 19.7% but Hyundai (+5.1%) is catching up, reducing the gap with the pole position from 2.765 in 2018 to 1.298 this year. Nissan (-6.9%) overtakes Kia (-13.4%) to climb onto the podium with Suzuki (-18.1%) rounding out the Top 5 like last year but all aforementioned brands fall faster than the market.

Strikingly, the four next best-sellers all post a market-defying gain: Honda (+1.8%), Mitsubishi (+1%), Chevrolet (+3.4%) and Isuzu (+1.5%) all advance whereas Ford (-18.2%) endures the largest gain in the Top 10 and closes it. Further down, Changan (+425%), Foton (+247.1%), Renault (+167.3%), Lincoln (+70%), MG (+50%), Porsche (+42.7%), JAC (+40%), Jeep (+22.5%), Peugeot (+18.8%), Infiniti (+15.8%), Subaru (+15%), Acura (+14.1%) and Mercedes (+11.7%) all impress with double-digit gains while GAC lands at #35.

In the models ranking, the Toyota Hilux (-8.9%) manages a 2nd consecutive pole position and 5th win in the past 10 years, resisting an aggressive assault by the Hyundai Accent lifting from outside the 2018 Top 5 directly into #2 only 89 sales below the Hilux. The Kia Rio Sedan (-17%) rounds out the podium ahead of the Honda CR-V, Nissan Frontier and Toyota RAV4.
