Panama Full Year 2019: Hyundai Accent #1 in market down -3%

New vehicle sales in Panama edge down -5.1% in 2019 to 47.579 units. Toyota (-10.2%) remains the most popular carmaker in the country at 19.8% share but Hyundai (+5.1%) is catching up, reducing the gap with the pole position from 2.765 in 2018 to 1.298 this year. Nissan (-6.9%) overtakes Kia (-13.4%) to climb onto the podium with Suzuki (-18.1%) rounding out the Top 5 like last year but all aforementioned brands fall faster than the market.
Strikingly, the four next best-sellers all post a market-defying gain: Honda (+1.8%), Mitsubishi (+6.3%), Chevrolet (+3.4%) and Isuzu (+1.5%) all advance whereas Ford (-18.2%) endures the largest gain in the Top 10 and closes it. Further down, Changan (+447.8%), Foton (+195%), Renault (+167.3%), Porsche (+53.3%), MG (+50%) and Lincoln (+47.8%) all impress with fantastic gains while GAC lands at #33.
In the models ranking, the Hyundai Accent (+9.2%) is back up to pole position for the first time since 2011 with 5.8% share, overtaking the Toyota Hilux (-13.6%). The Kia Rio (-19.9%) rounds out the podium ahead of the Hyundai Grand i10 (+42.4%), Honda CR-V (+0.4%), Nissan Frontier (-9.6%) and Toyota RAV4 (-10.7%).
