Chile January 2020: Chinese marques (+23.5%) up to record 19.4% share in market down -12.1%

Brilliance sales shoot up 473.7% in Chile thanks to the new Konect SUV.

14/03 update: Now with the Top 25 models.

The Chilean new vehicle market dives -12.1% year-on-year in January to 32.104 registrations. Chevrolet (-5.7%) limits its fall to half that of the market and cements its brand leadership with 10.1% share. It distances Kia (-18.5%) and Suzuki (-12.8%) while Hyundai (+2.8%) posts the only year-on-year gain in the Top 8. Chinese carmakers avoid the depressed context and surge 23.5% year-on-year to a smashing 19.4% share, the highest we’ve ever recorded them at and more than double the 9.3% share they commanded 3 years ago in January 2017. Brilliance (+473.7%), MG (+100.3%), Changan (+18.7%) and JAC (+18.2%) are among the best Chinese performers in Chile this month.

Over in the models ranking, the Suzuki Baleno (+2.1%) takes control ahead of the Mitsubishi L200 (-22.8%), Chevrolet Sail (-6.5%), Kia Rio (-35.2%) and Morning (-31.4%). The Chinese take control of the SUV segment this month with 3 in the Top 4: the MG ZS surges to best-seller and 8 overall ahead of the Toyota RAV4 (-28.2%), JAC S2 (#13) and Changan CX70 (#16).
