New car sales in Bahrain return to freefall in 2019 at -17.2% to just 28.880 registrations. Brand leader Toyota (-14.3%) manages to lose slightly less ground than the market to improve its share to a suffocating 39.7% whereas Nissan (-31.3%) implies to just 10.7% vs. 12.9% a year ago. Hyundai (-14.7%), Honda (-10.6%) and Lexus (-10.7%) ensure the Top 5 is unchanged on 2018. Chinese-owned MG (+113.6%) more than doubles its sales year-on-year and shoots up 6 spots to #11, being the only gainer in the Top 20 alongside Isuzu (+10.4%) and Chevrolet (+3.5%). Newcomer Changan lands directly at #19.
Model-wise, the Toyota Land Cruiser (+3.4%) defies the adverse conditions to secure a 6th consecutive annual pole position and 8th win in the past 9 years, crossing the symbolic 10% share to 11.5% and distancing the Nissan Sunny (-23.4%) like last year. The Toyota Prado (-20.9%) and Yaris (-29.7%) both leapfrog past the Toyota Corolla (-38.2%) to rank #3 and #4 respectively, with Toyota also placing the Camry (-22.6%) and Hiace (-17.6%) in the Top 7. The Hyundai Accent (-9.1%) and Toyota Hilux (-3.1%) contain their loss just as the Isuzu TF (aka D-Max) surges 89.2% and 13 spots to break into the Top 10 at #10. The Toyota Coaster (+45.4%), Toyota Rush (+39.8%) and Lexus ES (+18.3%) also shine in the Top 20. The Honda HR-V (#50), MG5 (#61), Lexus UX (#68) and Kia Pegas (#69) are the most successful 2019 launches in Bahrain.
