Malaysia October 2019: Perodua up to 42.3% share, Proton up 86.6% in market up 14%

The Malaysian new vehicle market continues to benefit from weak year-ago volumes and gains 14% year-on-year to 53.870 registrations in October, leading to a year-to-date tally down -1.1% to 496.861. Perodua (+16.8%) slightly outpaces the market to reach 42.3% share, its highest and first time above 40% since last April. Proton (+86.6%) however continues to advance much faster at 17.6% share vs. 16% while Toyota (+36.2%) is also very strong at 12% vs. 10.9%. Below however, Honda (-12.1%), Nissan (-31.6%) and Mazda (-39.4%) are all in freefall. Renault (+368.8%), Lexus (+310%), Hyundai (+183.8%), Subaru (+73.7%), Daihatsu (+70.7%) and Porsche (+40%) impress further down.
