Sweden October 2019: Volvo S/V60 cements lead in market up 28.4%
The Volvo S/V60 is once again the best-seller at home.
The Swedish new car market clocks in a third consecutive double-digit year-on-year gain in October at +28.4% to 29.631 units on weak year-ago volumes, leading to a year-to-date tally down -9% to 277.405. Volvo (+34.3%) and Volkswagen (+66.2%) both outpace the market to reach 17.6% and 16.7% share respectively, with the German brand dangerously close to the Swedish blockbuster this month, compared to year-to-date levels at 17.9% and 13.3% respectively. Just below, Kia (+23.6%), Toyota (+31.5%) and BMW (+5.8%) fail to match the market growth but Seat (+92.6%), Audi (+87.1%) and Nissan (+70.6%) also impress in the remainder of the Top 10. In line with deliveries boosted for end-of-quarter results, a strategy we have already observed in the USA and Norway, Tesla (+53.7%) drops 20 spots and 91.7% from 1.002 sales September to just 83 this month at #29 and 0.3% vs. #16 and 1.8% so far in 2019…
Model-wise, the Volvo S/V60 (+96.9%) remains in the lead and cements its YTD domination, with the VW Golf (+37.8%) and Volvo XC60 (+101.6%) competing the podium. The VW Passat (+75.5%) is lifted up 5 spots on September to #4 thanks to its facelift and distances the VW Tiguan (+193.8%), Volvo S/V90 in difficulty (-15.1%) and the Volvo XC40 (+43.3%) up 5 ranks on last month to #7, its best ranking of 2019 also reached last July. Kia places the Cee’d (+87.2%) and Niro (+63%) in the Top 10 while the new Toyota Corolla remains at #10. The VW T-Cross (#18), Seat Tarraco (#41) and Mazda CX-30 (#47) are the other new launches in the Swedish October Top 50.
