Luxembourg September 2019: Mercedes snaps first lead in almost a year, sales up 27.4%

Mercedes is the #1 brand and the A-Class #1 model in September.

05/11 update: Now with the Top 10 models.

New car sales in Luxembourg rebound up 27.4% year-on-year in September to 3.308 due to a particularly weak post-WLTP year-ago comparison set, tilting the year-to-date volume into positive at +1.6% to 43.038. Mercedes (+12.5%) is the best-selling carmaker in the country for the third time in the past 13 months after September and October 2018, hitting an outstanding 12.5% share vs. 9.5% so far in 2019. Volkswagen (+88.8%) is knocked down to #2 but recuperates year-on-year while BMW (-10.9%) rounds up the podium ahead of Peugeot (-3%), Audi (+175%), Volvo (+9%) and Skoda (+152.2%). Other great performers – meaning having overused pre-WLTP stock clearances a year ago and now disproportionately up vs. September 2018 sales – include Fiat (+116.2%), Jeep (+100%), Seat (+96.1%), Mini (+88.9%), Kia (+66.7%), Porsche (+66.7%) and Land Rover (+57.5%). Tesla (+1475%) for its part takes full advantage of the arrival of the Model 3.

Model-wise, Mercedes places 3 nameplates in the Top 5: the A-Class (+76.5%) at #1, the C-Class at #4 and the GLC at #5. The VW Golf (+55.3%) and Polo (+222.7%) complete the Top 5, Volkswagen placing 4 models in the Top 8: add the T-Roc at #7 and the Tiguan at #8.

Previous month: Luxembourg August 2019: Renault (#3), Porsche (#12), Captur (#1) shine in market down -9%

One year ago: Luxembourg September 2018: Mercedes GLC and A-Class on top, sales at -34.6%
