Portugal September 2019: Mercedes A-Class 3peats at #1, Tesla Model 3 up to record #14 in market up 13.9%
The Mercedes A-Class is the best-selling vehicle in Portugal again.
New car sales in Portugal bounce back up 13.9% year-on-year in September to 14.558 units on weak post-WLTP year-ago volumes, leading to a year-to-date tally down -4.7% to 174.024. Renault (+90.9%) returns to the top spot it holds year-to-date with 13.1% share, in line with the 13.3% to commands so far in 2019. Peugeot (-0.2%) is toppled to #2 ahead of Mercedes (+5.2%) also down one spot on August. Fiat (+72.2%) soars 4 ranks to #4, distancing Citroen (+14.7%), Seat (+54.7%) and Volkswagen (+23.3%), all outpacing the market. Note this is the 6th time this year that Seat outsells Volkswagen, and it is also ahead YTD at 8.694 (+10%) vs. 8.280 (-18.6%). Porsche (+8100%), Skoda (+80%), Suzuki (+57.7%), Dacia (+29.9%), Ford (+26%) and Smart (+20.1%) also shine further down while Tesla climbs to #17 with a record 2% share.
Model-wise, the Mercedes A-Class (+22.9%) spectacularly 3peats at #1 ad accesses to the #2 spot YTD below the Renault Clio (+31.1%) up one spot on August to #2 this month. The Renault Captur (+159.7%) round up the podium ahead of the Ford Focus (+102.4%) and Fiat Tipo (+471.6%). The Toyota Corolla (+3814.3%), Renault Megane (+129.5%), Seat Leon (+114.1%) and Nissan Qashqai (+98%) also impress further down. The Tesla Model 3 leaps up 84 ranks on August to breaks into the Portuguese Top 20 for the first time at #14. Among new launches, it distances the VW T-Cross (#19), Citroen C5 Aircross (#47), Peugeot Rifter (#114) and Toyota Camry (#118).
