Pakistan September 2019: Suzuki Alto hits highest share of any nameplate in over 10 years at 41.7%

1 in every 2.4 new cars sold in Pakistan in September is a Suzuki Alto.

Thanks to PAMA we can share with you September sales of locally-produced light vehicles in Pakistan, a fair representation of what the best-seller landscape given high taxes make new car imports negligible. The market remains in dire straits with September sales down another devastating -38.9% year-on-year to just 11.819 units, leading to a year-to-date tally down -19.7% to 154.839. Suzuki (-17.6%) does a lot better than the market to rise to an oppressing 69% market share while Toyota (-57%) and Honda (-68%) both implode.

The new Suzuki Alto reaches new heights with just under 5.000 sales for the month and a mammoth 41.7% share. This is only the second time this decade any nameplate manages a share upwards of 40% after the Toyota Corolla reached 40.2% in July 2010. It also means that the Suzuki Alto hits the highest market share of any nameplate in Pakistan in over 10 years, since the Toyota Corolla held 42.1% in April 2009. The Toyota Corolla (-59.4%), Suzuki Cultus (-38.4%) and WagonR (-74.5%) are left with crumbs.

Previous month: Pakistan August 2019: Suzuki Alto holds 33.6% of market imploding -42.1%
