Colombia September 2019: Renault Kwid signs first ever win in market up 5.8%
The Renault Kwid is the best-selling vehicle in Colombia for the first time.
New vehicle sales in Colombia enjoy a 5th consecutive month of year-on-year gains in September at +5.8% to 22.673 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 5.3% to 185.092. Renault (+21%) continues to vastly outperform the market, cementing its lead over archenemy Chevrolet (-2.2%) at 21.9% share vs. 16.6%. Nissan (+8.2%) and most strikingly Volkswagen (+50.3%) also impress in the remainder of the Top 5 just as Kia (-1.2%) skids down. Further down, Volvo (+104.9%), JMC (+75%), Mercedes (+35.9%), Foton (+28.6%), BMW (+24.4%) and Toyota (+12.8%) are among the best performers whereas Mitsubishi (-52.9%), Mazda (-23.6%), Dongfeng (-24.6%), Ford (-22.1%), Fiat (-21.1%) and Jeep (-18.7%) freefall.
In the models ranking, after placing 5 models in the Top 6 last month, Renault strikes a full house and monopolises the Colombian Top 5 for the first time in history. The Renault Kwid surges 5 spots on August to land in pole position, signing its first ever monthly win in Colombia at 4.3% share and making Colombia the second country in the world to crown the Kwid after Uruguay. It distances the Sandero (-7.7%), Logan (-30%), Sandero Stepway (+3.9%) and Duster (-5.9%). The Chevrolet Onix (+47.6%) is the best-selling non-Renault nameplate for the second straight month ahead of the Mazda2 (-26.8%) stepping up to #5 YTD, the Chevrolet Beat (-7.6%) and Kia Picanto (-29.9%). The VW Gol (+51.6%) brilliantly closes the Top 10 with the largest gain, with Volkswagen also placing the new T-Cross at #34 and the Virtus at #41.
