China Imports August 2019: Tesla (+519.5%), Jeep (+25.4%) survive market down -24.8%
The Tesla Model 3 ranks #8 import in China in August.
Import sales in China endure a second consecutive month of double-digit decline in August at a searing -24.8% to 82.357 units, yet the year-to-date tally remains in positive for now at +1.7% to 753.523. Brand leaders Lexus (-6%) and BMW (-6.6%) manage to contain their fall to roughly one quarter of the market rate, distancing Mercedes (-27.2%), Porsche (-19.8%), Toyota (-36.7%) and Lincoln (-38.1%) all skidding down. Tesla (+519.5%), Dodge (+147.1%), Jeep (+25.4%), Rolls Royce (+12.8%) and Mini (+3.5%) are the only Top 25 carmakers in positive while Lamborghini (+550%) surges thanks to the Urus. Model-wise, Lexus once again monopolises the podium with the ES (+111.3%), NX (-25.3%) and RX (-25.6%) with the Porsche Macan (+5.9%) and Cayenne (-28.8%) rounding up the Top 5 like last month. The Mercedes GLE (+41.8%) also posts a splendid gain in the Top 10 while the Tesla Model 3 (#8) and BMW X2 (#9) top new launches.
