Media post: Get your winter tires mounted before the winter weather arrives

Timing of when you mount your winter tires can be just as important as making sure that you do put them on. If you do it too late you might already be stuck in winter conditions and you might have to try to drive to the tyre service station to get them changed in conditions that your current tires were not made for. This can be extremely dangerous and you can easily end up in an accident. This is why it is always better, especially if you are heavily dependent on your car that you change well in advance. You should of course be pragmatic about it and not change in July to winter tires, but when the temperatures start dropping it is time to book a time for a change.

Tires that are not indicated for winter conditions are no good in those conditions. If they don’t have the 3PMSF-symbol on the sidewall of the tires, then they haven’t been tested and approved for winter conditions. You see, the rubber compound used in winter tires is completely different than the one used in all-season tires. All-season tires shouldn’t beused during the winter, as they will get hard and won’t be able to provide the necessary grip and control that you need for safe driving. Nor do they provide any built in features for providing that grip on ice or snow, which a winter tire will give you by either having studs or using unique tread pattern and grip particles that can provide this.

Rubber might seem like a very elementary material, but when it comes to tires, they are built and designed into a high performance product, that has been continuously developed tested to achieve the best possible performance and safety while driving. Without the grip that the tires provide you will not get the performance out of your car.

If you want to have one set of tires for the whole year, you have some winter approved all-weather tires. These can be perfect for areas that only have occasional winter weather, but you still want to make sure that you are prepared one it comes. With these tires you don’t have to worry about the weather forecasts or having to leave the car behind due to wrong tires.
