Luxembourg July 2019: VW and Mercedes on top, Maxus steps up
Maxus sells the EV80 electric van in Luxembourg.

New car sales in Luxembourg slow down their fall in July at -2.7% to 4.796 registrations, leading to a year-to-date volume now up just 0.9% to 35.916. Volkswagen remains untouchable at 14.5% share, and Mercedes (9.2%) is back to the 2nd place it holds YTD ahead of BMW (8%) and Audi (7.5%), replicating the 2019 Top 4 so far. Peugeot (6.3%) overtakes Renault (6.1%) for a spot in the Top 5, while Citroen is up two spots on June to return into the Top 10 at #9, knocking Volvo down 3 spots to #10. Hyundai (#11 vs. #14), Toyota (#13 vs. #16), Porsche (#20 vs. #23), Suzuki (#21 vs. #25), DS (#25 vs. #27) and Ferrari (0.3% share vs. 0.1%) also evolve markedly above their YTD levels. Finally, notice Chinese carmaker Maxus taking flight, up 12 spots on June to #36 with 9 sales of its EV80 electric van, also sold in France, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, while the other Chinese fare present in Luxembourg, Borgward, is down to nil sales for the month.
Model-wise, the VW Golf (+17%) remains comfortably in the lead, selling double the amount of the #2, the Mercedes A-Class (+55.7%) up 4 spots on June while the VW Tiguan (-56.2%) in great difficulty rounds up the podium. The VW Polo (+27.6%) and Audi Q3 (+407.1%) follow, while the BMW X3 returns inside the YTD Top 10.
