Austria August 2019: VW T-Cross up to record #4, VW Group monopolises Top 8
The VW T-Cross is up to a record 4th place in Austria.
New car sales in Austria drop -12.7% year-on-year in August to 29.888 units as hangover from last year’s pre-WLTP rush kicks in. The year-to-date tally is now down -8.3% to 237.251. Volkswagen (+5.5%) and Skoda (+30.6%) ignore the market decline to top the brands ranking like last month and YTD at 15.5% and 7.9% share respectively, with Audi (+12.9%) and Mercedes (+3.9%) the only other Top 13 carmakers in positive. In contrast, Fiat (-54.3%), Mazda (-44.5%), Nissan (-37.9%), Renault (-36.6%), Dacia (-35.4%), Mitsubishi (-25.9%), Toyota (-25.3%), Jeep (-22.8%), Citroen (-18.6%) and Hyundai (-18.6%) all fall heavily. Further down, Tesla (+296.9%), Lexus (+65.4%), Smart (+42.5%), Peugeot (+19.3%) and Mini (+11.3%) impress with sizeable gains. Model-wise, the Skoda Octavia (+79.7%) and VW Bus (+62.1%) post spectacular uptick to dominate head and shoulders above the VW Golf (-7.1%), T-Cross edging up one spot on July to a record #4, Polo (+6.4%) and T-Roc (+7.9%) while the Skoda Fabia (-3%) and Seat Ibiza (+5.9%) make it 8 VW Group nameplates in the Top 8. The Audi Q3 (+321.3%), Mercedes C-Class (+50%) and Suzuki Vitara (+16.3%) shine just below.
