Madagascar 2018: Renault takes the lead
The Renault Kwid has launched in many Indian Ocean countries, including Madagascar, Sri Lanka (pictured) and Mauritius.
Exclusive sales statistics for Madagascar, a traditionally tricky market to follow, is now available for 2018. If in 2017 only the first two quarters were available, this year we have progress and access to the first three quarters. Over the period, 1.561 new cars and light commercial vehicles were registered in the country. Renault gains two spots on both its 2016 and 2017 ranking to take the overall lead with 12.5% share, well above last year’s leader Toyota at 8.8%. Mercedes leaps up 9 spots to a splendid third place with 8.4%, distancing Ford, Mitsubishi, Nissan and Hyundai. This year there are two Chinese carmakers in the Top 15: Great Wall at #11 and BAIC at #13, making its very first appearance in the Madagascar charts.
