Ireland July 2019: Toyota Corolla takes control

The Toyota Corolla is now #1 YTD in Ireland.

The Irish new car market has its bi-annual license plate change in July and as a result sales jump to the 2nd largest monthly volume in the year below January at 24.701, albeit down year-on-year for the first time since March at -8.4% and leading to a year-to-date tally down -7.6% to 105.457. Toyota (+15.1%) surges ahead to solidly hold onto the brands top spot at 12.8% share vs. 11.4% for Volkswagen (-0.7%), the YTD leader. As per the YTD order, Hyundai (-11.5%) closes the podium, this time distancing Skoda (+1%), Ford (-26.1%), Nissan (-23.4%), Kia (-12.8%) and Renault (-26.6%) all in great difficulty. Seat (+9.9%) and Peugeot (+9.1%) shine below.

Model-wise, the Toyota Corolla (+203.2%) reclaims the top spot for the 4th time in the past 5 months and give the weight of July volumes, also snaps the YTD pole position thanks to sales up 126% on the previous generation sedan a year ago. The Hyundai Tucson (-13.3%) skids but ranks #2 ahead of the Nissan Qashqai (-0.7%), VW Golf (-18.1%) and Hyundai Kona (+28.6%) scoring its 4th Top 5 finish in the past 10 months. The VW T-Cross (#40) leads new launches above the Toyota Camry (#48), Seat Tarraco (#58) and Skoda Scala (#64).
