France 1-13 August 2019: Toyota Yaris #3, Suzuki #9 in market down -4%
The Toyota Yaris ranks at a record #3 in France halfway through the month.
Over the first 13 days of August, the French new car market slides down -4% year-on-year but Peugeot (+11%) swims upstream to hold onto the brands lead above Renault (-31%) and Citroen (-5%). Keep in mind these intermediary rankings are to be taken with a grain of salt as a lot of carmakers (such as Renault) backload their months with most registrations happening in the last few days. Toyota (+23%) continues to stun, remaining at a record 4th spot and distancing Volkswagen (-4%), Dacia (-43%) and Ford (+16%). At the tail end of the Top 10, Suzuki (+110%), Mercedes (+36%) and Kia (+30%) all post spectacular gains. Smart ranks at #13 with only 5% private sales.
Model-wise, the Peugeot 208 (+7%) reclaims the lead it has held over the past two month during the transition between the Renault Clio Generation (-34%) down to #5 and the Renault Clio 5 stuck at a paltry 9th place. The Citroen C3 (-5%) is knocked down to #2 while the Toyota Yaris (+21%) continues to surprise with an outstanding third place overall. The Peugeot 308 (+24%) and 2008 (+16%) both score fantastic double-digit gains for now.
