Czech Republic July 2019: Skoda (+26.7%) triggers first market uptick in 11 months, places Scala at record #5
The Skoda Scala breaks into the Czech Top 5 in July.
The Czech new car market ends a gruelling 10 consecutive months of decline in July at a slim +0.8% to 21.816 registrations. The year-to-date tally remains frankly in negative territory however at -9.1% to 150.314 units. Homegrown brand leader Skoda (+26.7%) is the sole responsible for this long-awaited market uptick, with sales in absolute frenzy for the month. Hyundai (+4.1%) brilliantly remains in 2nd place with a mammoth 11.2% share vs. just 7.3% so far this year, keeping Volkswagen (-33.4%) locked in third place at 7.6%. Dacia (+20.1%), Toyota (+10.3%) and Kia (+6.7%) follow and all outpace the market, but the rest of the Top 10 is in negative with Renault (-21.7%), Ford (-18.1%), Peugeot (-13.2%) and Citroen (-5.9%).
The Skoda Kamiq has landed in the Czech Republic.
Model-wise, the Skoda Fabia (+21.1%) reclaims the top spot off the Octavia (-13.2%) for the third time since this year after February and March but remains #2 YTD at 8.4% share vs. 8.9% for the Octavia. The Hyundai ix20 (+86.1%) surges to #3, displacing the Skoda Karoq (+108.1%) from the podium just as the new Scala leaps up 3 spots to break into its home Top 5 for the first time. The Skoda Kodiaq (+50.5%), Superb (+25.5%) and Dacia Duster (+23.4%) also post spectacular gains in the tail end of the Top 10, with the Toyota Corolla (+86.8%), Dacia Dokker (+77.1%) and Kia Cee’d (+29.9%) also impressive just outside. The new Skoda Kamiq crossover makes its first appearance in the Czech charts at #89.
